The Indian Calendar just entered into the New Year (2066).
The Hindu calendar used in ancient times has undergone many changes in the process of regionalization, and today there are several regional Indian calendars, as well as an Indian national calendar.
A 'Samvat' is any of the Hindu calendars, Vikram Samwat (Bikram Sambat, or Vikram Samvat ,विक्रम संवत) is the calendar established by Indian emperor Vikramaditya. The date is supposed to mark the victory of king Vikramaditya over the Sakas, who had invaded Ujjain.
Vikram Samvat is approximately 56 years and 8½ months ahead of the Gregorian calendar. The Indian New Year falls in the middle of April. Unlike Gregorian months, the lengths of Samvat months are not predetermined, and change from year to year, varying from 29 days to 32 days. Vikram Samvat is specially use in India and Nepal. Country like Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thiland and Malaysia also use this calendar
